Utah College of Applied Technology (UCAT) formed in 2001 under House Bill 1003. This made UCAT the state's tenth and newest institution in the Utah System of Higher Education under the State Board of Regents. In so doing, the former Applied Technology Centers (ATCs) and Service Regions were then organized under UCAT. UCAT's mission is to prepare both adult and high school students to enter or advance in the workplace and meeting the needs of Utah's employers for technical workers by providing market-driven technical education for the competitive 21st century workforce. How is this accomplished? UCAT programs offer a flexible open-entry, open-exit format through competency-based education and training programs, apprenticeship, or even custom-designed individual plans for employer needs, ultimately contributing to economic development and improvement of life for Utah citizens.
